Thompson Yulidjirri

ARTIST BIO

(b. 1930, AUSTRALIA)

 

Born in county Gunbalanya(Oenpelli), this respected senior Aboriginal artist belongs to the clan Djalama and spoke Kunwinjku.

 

He specialized in Bark paintings, ochres on bark and arches paper, in cross-hatching style and miniaturising mimi figures with his own totems of brolgas and bush turkeys. He also paints ceremonial images of the sacred and ritual realms.
For many years, Thompson had been instructing young and emerging artists, as a painter as well as a respected Aboriginal dancer.
