Artist Bio
(b.1969, CHINA)
Born in Deyang, Sichuan in 1969, Yin Kun graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Sichuan Normal University in 1992. He went to Beijing in 1993 and became a free painter. His works participated in several domestic and international exhibitions, and wildly collected by collectors all over the world.
Yin Kun is a wise, sensitive, and active young artist; painting is an outlet or a record of his life and emotions. His work involves different social levels, through modern people's ignorance towards certain social abnormal phenomena, promulgating and questioning the root of the problem. Yin Kun pays attention to the contemporary person's survival experience and the reality of feelings, showing through artistic forms and pictures such as pop, absurd realism, kitsch to convey direct and insightful message. The brightness of the images seems to evoke a sense of hope and optimism even though the subject matter is often presented in a very cynical way.
Yin Kun often draws from tales of national heroes such as Qiu Shaoyun’s bravery on the battlefields or the patriotic sacrifices of the Five Heroes, transforming them into images of joy and foolishness. It is this kind of contrast and contradiction between gallant stories and silly imagery that the line distinguishing good and evil is blurred.
1992 Graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Sichuan Normal University
